ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The ideal candidate for the Hand Sewer position will have extensive experience working with luxury fabrics and materials, demonstrating a passion for creating stunning garments that exceed our clients’ expectations. This position requires precision, creativity, and a keen eye for detail in the crafting of bespoke wedding gowns and evening wear.
ABOUT YOU
- Over 5 years of hands-on experience in sewing and draping, particularly in evening gown and bridal alteration settings
- Expertise in working with delicate materials such as lace, beadwork, silks, and tulle
- Highly skilled in advanced sewing techniques, including pattern drafting, draping, and fabric construction
- Proficient in the operation of industrial sewing machines and industrial pressing equipment
- In-depth understanding of garment construction and fit, ensuring high-quality finish and client satisfaction
- Effective communicator, maintaining professionalism and collaboration with colleagues in a team-oriented environment
- Strong multitasking abilities, proficient at handling various projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines in a lively and fast-paced environment
- Flexible availability, willing to work 8+ hour shifts, including evenings and weekends, to meet business deadlines
WHAT YOU’LL DO
This position will also assist the alterations department by sewing, steaming, pressing and finishing merchandise as needed. Work is inclusive of the following:
- Sew garments fitted and assigned by Alterations Manager, ensuring timely completion of each project
- Execute all aspects of sewing to deliver high-quality alterations and finishes, including machine sewing, hand finishing, draping, cutting, bustling, and pressing
- Use draping techniques to create patterns and achieve desired fit for clients
- Accurately measure and mark garments according to the Monique Lhuillier Alterations guidelines, adherence is crucial
- Initiate and finalize all tasks assigned to you individually
- Follow the modification guidelines outlined on the instruction card and complete them as instructed
- Customize gowns by downsizing or upsizing, creating sleeves, enhancing coverage, etc.
- Collaborate closely with team members to effectively manage workload and meet deadlines, ensuring the smooth operation of the department
A reasonable estimate of the current hourly rate is $22.00-28.00, annualized from $45,760 - $58,240. The rate of pay offered may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If chosen for the interview, you will be required to pass a sewing skills test. A fully pinned garment will be presented to you to execute. The alterations will consist of a combination of work on the bust, zipper, hem, and handwork. Testing hours are from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Please bring lunch as you will be provided with a 30-minute lunch break.
